Description

Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire (MPDD) has obtained grant funding from ERDF for a project called ‘Growing and Developing the Visitor Economy within Derbyshire’. It is focussing on what could be done to improve the visitor offer in 9 market towns in the county (Ashbourne, Belper, Bolsover, Buxton, Matlock & Matlock Bath, Swadlincote, and Wirksworth.

Fourth Street, a company that specialises in the visitor economy, have been commissioned to work with stakeholders in each town to help them decide what the priorities should be. David Geddes, a director, who is very experienced in this, is leading the work. They are doing a “destination audit” for each town which evaluates the current situation and the opportunities, and are then having a workshop in each place to discuss it. The aim is to reach consensus about priorities for what should be done and what would be the best way to go about getting it done. David will then write a short report for each town with recommendations.

The workshop will start with an introduction by David about the results of the audit and his ideas for what might be done, followed by discussion and, at the end, a summary of what has been agreed.
